Hopelessly bubbaded rifle

Have any of you acquired a milsurp for your collection that was bubbaded and mostly beyond hope of restoration? I did, and mine is a 1918/1920 Erfurt KAR98AZ in a heavily sanded and modified Greek Model 1930 stock. I just wanted a WWI rifle and found this at a gun show for cheap. Would love to hear about others acquisitions of Bubba's work.

Wow Patrick, looks like Bubba will go to any lengths to destroy history. Funny that Mitchell's didn't do that with M48s calling them special forces low reflection rare stocks.

By the way, Fender and Gibson have made limited edition guitars with a sandblast finish. Not really my cup of tea but they are cool looking.

maybe it was firewood? vertical mark looks like it sat on something when wet. grain opening back up like that looks it was heated in a fire, then charred part rasped off? I remember seeing a video on YouTube, Anvil was the name of the channel, he showed a stock from a gun involved in a fire. I'm probably way off though on that stock.

I rescued a 1903A1 Springfield that Bubba had lavished his love on. Had a NOS Remington 1943 barrel installed and did all the sanding and polishing after that, also redid the Bishop or Fajen sporter stock, had a steel Lyman 57 sight installed and a Redfield banded front sight installed. Then all the metal reblued. That was almost 30 years ago and still have it.

However some bubba's I have bought were the following.
1. 1895 Chilean Mauser, barrel cut down with a pipe cutter and to this day don't know what he attached the front sight with. Silver arrow made from a quarter.
2. 1891 Argentine Mauser. Barrel cut with hacksaw and never recrowned properly. Bolt bent probably by using a MAP torch,stock cut as well.
3. Another 1891 Argentine mauser, maybe an importer's work but thinking Bubba.
4. 1896 Swedish Mauser, bought 4 of them for $75 each. Figured maybe one of my two daughters would get interested in shooting. No joy on that one. Looks like a Swedish Bubba had filed on the entire rear sight badly.
5.1898 Springfield Armory 1903 cartouche on stock. Barrel cut to 25" properly crowned.stock cut down. Sporting ramp front sight they left the issue one in place. This one shoots Remington 180 grain Cor-Loct pretty well. 6. Russian/Finn model 27 with the winged connectors on the bolt and milled inside the receiver. Barrel cut back, no front sight,wood cut. Took off the barrel and saved all the metal and the action. So there's that I can come up with off the top of my head. Frank
