New Addition To The Enfield Family

After patiently waiting for more than a year I eventually found a BSA No7.

Delivered today and what a beauty.

"RIFLE No.7 Mk I
Although a No.7 Mk I, the British version is very different from it's Canadian counterpart. This rifle was a conversion of an existing No.4 and is interesting in that a BSA five-round commercial .22 magazine was welded into a SMLE Mk III* magazine to produce the only Enfield .22 repeater. These rifles were a special contract and produced exclusively for the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1948. Total production 2,500".


It seems the pics are too large - I'll have to find ways of reducing the size - any ideas ?

I bought mine in 1965 for £14. Super little thing it is too. The RAF Cadets still had a few of them into the 80's. They used to go into the big 43 Command Workshops at Aldershot if the RAF 'bombies' couldn't fix them. The REME Armourers used to strip one to the bare bones for its spares value every so often, just to keep them on the road but this practice was stopped so they'd condemn them and get No8's as replacements.

I wish I'd collected all of the bits up together when the workshops closed!

Actualy the magazine is not welded in, its quite removeable for loading.

The magazine is not 'welded' into the rifle - it removes in the normal way.
The 5 shot BSA magazine is rivetted into a holder / plate which in turn is rivetted into the 'outer' magazine shell.
The 5 shot magazine does not come out of the 'outer' shell.

The bolt and action numbers match but the magazine is not matching to the rifle.
The magazine number is BS2140 - has anyone got this rifle ?

I just wasnt pulling hard enough - its now quite 'free & easy'.

Looking closer I dont think the rivets are in fact rivets but are spot-welds

somewhat confused, as I can remove my .22 mag from the shell and I do to load it.
