1903 duplicate stock

I'm putting together a 1903 for a shooter with a Criterion barrel and would like to know who would be recommended for an S type stock duplication.

Minelli has been my choice. Buying them from Sarco. Fit is really good. Stay away from the CMP stocks.

So, you're saying that the Sarco stocks are made by Minelli ?

Sarco haș straight stocks with finger grooves right now for $150. Price is odd if they were minelli since the minelli C stocks are 250ish, and I've only seen them offered on brownells as of late (stocky's is the the other place, but perpetually out of stock). I just ordered one, with full understanding of the risks in getting a "partially inletted" stock and the work it may require. It should be here next week sometime, so if you aren't in a hurry I'll let you know how it arrives, and how much work it will require to properly fit.

The hideous top of the wood isn't the worst part, nor is how wide it is on the sides of the action. I don't have the action screws in yet. Contact is at the muzzle, and the sides of the tang ... and no contact under the tang. Look how much room there is to make up! Now, if there is enough wood there no big deal. But my micrometer says 0.810 of wood between bottom metal inlet and receiver flat. On the old, tired straight stock this is replacing, the magazine touches the receiver...it has 0.815. The 1903a3 stock I just fit had 0.850 when I was all done and it was perfect. So, there is no point messing with this Sarco stock...just not enough wood at the single most critical area. I'll be sending it back ASAP.

Other than poor inletting and no wood to work with, it was really nice wood with even grain and no sapwood, unlike the Minelli's I've done, but alas "other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show?"

I guess the difference in quality or manufacturer is that I buy the C stock with hand guard for $199.
I build Marine Sniper wannabees so I have to use C style stocks to be legal for CMP match's.

I have a lonely Remington M1903...came with all correct parts and a perfect bore. Seller threw it in a CMP/boyds C-stock and did not bother to fit it...(one of the early stocks at least without a handgaurd ring groove cut for compatibility with an A3). The stock was at least straight, but very fat around the lower band, and so the handgaurd and under the forend were all chewed up from them pounding it down. I finished fitting the inlet, and it shoots great now..but I've been wanting a stock for a while. I had high hopes. I suppose I could cut the pistol grip off this cmp one, and do the finger grooves myself, but that would be a big undertaking and not at all worth it knowing there is sapwood under that spray tan.

Or, I could just get a NOS scant for it. At least I know it will fit properly, and would at least be correct as a field replacement.

If you are talking about the minelli C-stocks - I have fit several and the inletting is pretty good. I have issue with cheap wood, spray tan, and the very fat outer profile. I have a thread here somewhere with step-by-step review and fitting of one.
