    Indian Trainer

    Lee-Enfield Indian Trainer:

    R.F.I.
    1957
    No. 2 Mk 4*

    -Original S.N., on the action, remuved with a file (I assume);

    - New S.N.: 200XX;

    -Barrel with two grooves.

    Is it a legit trainer?

    Thanks.
    Giancarlo

    Yes it is legit, one of 35,000 made over 20 years. But the rifle, if you are looking at the same one I was, was restocked using an old grenade launching wood set as you can see where the wire was wrapped around. It is a rare rifle but beware.

    Fushigi: yes it is in .22 LR.

    Lance: yes, I think we are looking at the same rifle.

    An oddity the barrel with two grooves (for me): I had never heard of a trainer with a two grooves barrel.

    Is there a bore scope photo confirming that?

    I saw the rifle from life.

    No borescope photo.

    This is the only pic I have: Attachment 120466

    a bit dificult to tell from that photo. I've never heard mention of a two groove .22 barrel; but that makes it interesting!
    Hopefully someone will know the origins of that.

    Nor have I - there is a smooth bore .22rf but the picture certainly shows some rifling.
    Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...
