    Saginaw/Irwin Pedersen Mystery

Local pawn shop has a Saginaw with a serial number in the 18xxxxx range which would be IP contract.

On second look it had appropriate narrow band, flip rear sight, push button safety, proper underwood barrel and all.

However the trigger housing looked blued, the receiver appeared to be painted black and the bolt was round and in the white.

Was this likely a commercial rebuild of some kind?

After about 78 years, it could've been done just about anywhere. Did you notice any import markings on it? Many of them were sent to foreign countries after WWII and often refurbished by them. - Bob

No import marks that I could see so I wonder what the story is. For $1k price tag I wasn't willing to take a chance. There were too many red flags for me.

With today's prices, that still could be somewhat of a bargain. I talked to a guy in AZ a couple days ago that had just been to a gun show that had (10) M1icon Carbines available from several dealers. I asked if they started around $1500? He had been to the same show about a year earlier and many had been in the $1500 range. This time he told me none were under $2000.

If it's at a local shop, maybe take a second look at that one - what was the stock like? - Bob

    FYI,
    On 2-28-21 I paid $414.04 for a Real RG-S'G' Flip sight to replace a Fake on a S'G' 1,823,xxx.
Pricey? Yes but after a 12+ year search, it was worth it to me.

No doubt there is value in the parts alone. I have an IBM that has a Lyman peep sight (not awful) but bubba tried to thread the barrel (yeah awful) but it has no bayonet lug and a few other parts that make it worthwhile even if it can't be restored.

The white bolt has me truly baffled. And I have never seen a receiver stamp where the it was ostamped so hard you could see part of the edge of the stamp itself. It is stored Saginaw S.G. and beside the first S you can see a horizontal edge and one corner.

Given my limited budget I cant go for it unless I sold off something else.
