Rear sight installation/removal tool

IMHO, a brass drift and a hammer work great for a much cheaper price. If you have a sight that is really stuck in the dovetail, the tool would come in very handy.

I'm sure the copy of the special tool for removing type one sights and installing type two and type three sights works well. It's not rocket science.

It's discouraging there's enough of a market that such a tool could be copied, machined and sold today.

I bought one from Nick Dailey and it works great. I don't think it is meant to be a copy of an original USGI tool, just a functional equivalent. A brass punch does work fine much of the time, but when you get one that is really tight this tool comes into its own. It is also is convenient to use because you can move the sight a little at a time. With a punch you wind up moving it too much one way and then back again the other way.

I too have purchased a rear sight removal tool from Nick Daily, mainly because it was less money than the others I looked at and the design seemed simple.

I have used it twice and it works very well. You do not need to place it in a vise, just lay it on your work bench, drop in the receiver and go to work. The only down side I saw is that it leaves a little brass residue on your sight. A coating of grease on the sight, prior to removal or installation takes care of that.

For me it works well and I feel I received good value for my money.

Based on Shamrocks' recommendation I got one from Fulton Armory http://www.fulton-armory.com/MCarbPa...-RearSightTool and it works great. Very well made and easy to use. Easy on the carbine and allows very fine adjustment. Works fine with all sight types.

I've used a hammer and a bronze drift in the past, but the tool is definitely nicer. Might not be worth $99 to everyone, but it was to me. I've dealt with Nick Dailey in the past and he only sells quality stuff, so you could order in confidence from him, too.

I just looked at the Fulton Armory website. The tool Fulton Armory sells looks exactly like the one Nick Dailey sells. I am sure it is from the same original source. Almost exactly the same price. I am sure you will be happy with it, no matter which of the sources you purchase it from.
