Springfield 1903 A2??

I know there are 1903 A1, A3, and A4. But I am wondering if there ever were 1903 A2 rifles, and if not why?

I recall reading that they were sub-caliber devices for tank guns.

Here is a picture of the M1903A2 sub caliber device in use with a field gun. These sub caliber devices allowed training of setting up, aiming and firing anti-tank and field guns without the cost of the ammo, or the need for a large range. There were also .30 USA (.30-40 Krag) and .22 LR devices.

Ive a vague memory that was for ranging purposes, but I didnt recall it was called an A2!?!?
