    CAI M14 S/A Sporter

I just picked up al barrel marked CAI M14icon S/A shorter that has the chopped and welded flash hider. I believe it is a Norinco or Ploytech M14 as the barrel is marked made in China and not the Federal Ordinance made receiver that CAI used on some of the M14 Chi Com's. In the process of dremeling the castle not and chopped flash hider I got into the castle nut. I believe the castle nuts are metric. If anyone has a metric castle nut they are not using let me know.

I have one of these rifles myself. Haven't gotten around to shooting it.

I also cut the weld and replaced the flash hider then put it in a GI stock. Nice looking rifles!

I had a Norinco 305 before they were outlawed here and it needed everything to get rolling. It was stripped to a frame and set into a very expensive modular stock and had optics added. It shot fine at closer ranges as we don't have anything long hereabouts. When I received it I had to puzzle piece it together with a GI fiberglass stock and handguard, GI flash eliminator and original castle nut. I guess some guys chased the muzzle threads with a die to screw on a GI castle nut but we seems to have them so I didn't. I had a problem with the trigger mech/stock relationship so it was now firing automatic... I changed the trigger housing and all was well again. The rear sight wanted to stand way up so I had to take the front sight height way down so I had some decent elevation options. It all worked out in the end, my receiver was marked to Norinco as all I saw were in some manner. Somewhere on top or side... I wouldn't try to turn them into something fancy like many here did. I just kept it straight grunt...
    Regards, Jim
