I saw this and that one never occurred to me. I've driven across the giant bridge up there and there was no one with an M1in sight... They look to be carrying M3s?

The locks were garrisoned during WWII. There were varying numbers of troops up there and even barrage balloons at one point, but the camp was closed in 1946. Must be an exercise.
