Am doing restoration on a Ross Mk11 5 Star and want to replace the rear sight base which is (sweated) soldered on. Is there any problem in heating the damaged rear sight base to remove it and resoldering the replacement, in that it might cause a bend or deforming of the barrel itself. My thoughts are to wrap the barrel with a wet cloth or wrapping, around the barrel in front of and behind the sight base when heating it in the desoldering and resoldering of the replacement. Any other ideas?Information
