    Neil Iovino one of the POW;s rescued from the Catanatuan Rail

    I knew one of the POW's that was liberated from the Catanatuan Raid. I met him in a local barber shop and I use to visit him. He would always remember the way the Japaneseicon treated the POW's He died in 2008 at 90 years old.

    He joined the US Marines before WW2 and was with the 4th Marines in China when sent back to the Philippines.

    It's neat some of the historical figures we've had opportunity to serve with or meet and chat up. Not that it's stopped, the guys from this recent unpleasantness will be around long after I will. I just don't see this last set of wars the same way as WW1, WW2 and Korea...plus the others that ran concurrently. They're all gone now, mostly.
