Daisy M853 .177 air rifle

Picked this up late last week through a connection with my rifle team. Another school had hoped to start a rifle team but as it's in the city of Lancaster, politics didn't allow for it. So the guy hoping to get it done ended up stuck with several of these rifles.

We don't use them in our league but various reviews seem to indicate they would have been somewhat competitive in the right hands.

He got them from the CMP for $100 and that's what I paid for it. Haven't shot it yet other than to do a penetration test in a piece of wood. Pellet went all the way in and stopped flush with the surface. Not sure what type of wood it is but it was my basement stair riser.

They are US marked but probably from the manufacturer. Not sure if this is something the CMP would want on them or not but I find it doubtful they are surplus in any way.

The CMP still has them for sale but they are $125 now.

I've been wanting an accurate BB/pellet rifle for years. I have one of those Chinese made one pump deals but it is 4 inch MOA at 10 feet, with a scope on it. I think the barrel might be bent.

I had a problem about 40 years ago with my mother when I wanted to purchase an air pistol by mail order which had to be done by someone over 18 years old. My solution was to ask my gran to order it and, surprisingly, she agreed. I was very vigilant, waiting for the postman to deliver the package, so that I could intercept it, give it to my gran, who then gave it back to me to open. The s**t really hit the fan, in a very big way after my brother saw the air pistol and immediately grassed me up to my mother who went ballistic and confiscated the said air pistol. My gran went unusually very quiet for a while and I entered into some very "delicate negotiations" with my mother before I managed to get my air pistol back again.
