    Help with identifying bayonet

Buddy found this old Bayonet in a home he bought. I told him I was certain that the fine folks that make up Milsurps.com could surely id it for him and possibly advise as to approximate value.

MAUSER KAR 98K bayonet, WW2. It needs a cleaning and is missing the scabbard. Hang on and someone will tell you who made it and for what exact faction... Price will depend on where you are exactly, they aren't worth the same where I am as where you are. You could look on Gunbroker and see what they're asking for them for instance.
    Regards, Jim

asw - E.u.F Hörster, 1941/mid 1944. In that condition, it isn't worth much. Blade looks ground down. Carefully get rid of the rust and you can improve it some but the ground blade is a killer for collectors. Bottom edge of the blade should be straight. Maybe it's shadows I'm seeing. Handle looks OK.

If it was mine I would use electrolysis to clean the rust off which is described elsewhere on this forum.

What your friend should avoid doing is attempting to sand, grind or use abrasives to remove the rust.
