How long in combat before the ranks were scrubbed off the helmets?

Mark-- Do you have any details on the photo? They look like soldiers from the PA National Guard, 28th Inf Div. The spit shine helmet liners with divisional insignia and rank dates from the mid to late 50's. The Ist shirts rain coat is the only one that look line its not wet. LOL!

Thanks Mark - I am a bit surprise that the Ist Shirt is not telling the young LT how stupid of an idea it was to inspect troops in the rain.
