Bowie Point Cut Down Garand Bayonet

Springfield 1918 bayonet cut down to 10" by American Fork and Hoe during WWII. Officially the M1905E1 bayonet, same designation as the spear tip cut down.

Cut-down M1905 bayonets were carried on the books as "M1" bayonets. Their cut-down M3 scabbards were carried as "M7" scabbards. The term M1905E1 covered only the test items, not the production ones. Collectors, however, like to call them M1905E1. Both the bayonet blade and the scabbard throat were marked at conversion.

These used to be everywhere but now are gone into collections. I had one of course and later a nice Onida with brown scales...also a RIA from about 1920 with walnut scales. Both had the correct cut down M3 crimped mouth scabbard too. All long gone. Pic of the scabbard mouth I speak of...

Of course we had to have the spear point and bowie to complete things and the variations of the cut downs. What a pile that made for.
