Another Ebay Trials Treasure

If you search long enough a piece of gold can be found. This time a Trials No. 4 rear sight modified for sniper service. Slightly different markings than my other spare (right) this one has the elusive 6-click adjustment wheel that Roger promised me existed that I have only seen in pictures.

My 31 Trials is four click & my 33 is a six click. The sight on the 33 is the only one I've ever owned.

You had me wondering so I checked my 31 Trials and it is a four click. Can't get to the other trials sniper so I will check it later. I don't remember what year it is. Interesting variant that I didn't know existed.

I'm a little late to this conversation, but I just confirmed my 1931 trials is a 6-click, and my 1933 is a 4 click backsight. Both were converted to T configuration.

How could one tell the trials rear sight from a standard No4 rear sight?

The trials sight has the distinctive superimposed E within F within D mark. The standard No4 sights are marked with F for Fazakerley, B for BSA, SM41 for Singer, and the squared S for Savage. Also, the underside of the base is different in that it has the rounded notches to engage a little spring loaded ball bearing. The later, production model sights have a flattened step that engages the top of a plunger.

Having once found a RSAF(E) trials pattern foresight protector in a box of parts I'd agree.

What was the previous find you allude to?

It has been a while but I found, sadly, an Enfield Trials upper and lower bands along with hand guard ring and foresight protector all in one lot. I contacted the seller to see if he had the rifle or wood also but no luck, he was just selling off a friends ex-gun shop left overs.
