My new to me M1 Garand

Here is one of my recently acquired M1icon Garands. This one had already gone through a very extensive restoration and I am not sure if it was changed to a "D" model at that time or if the armory did it at one point. The scope is a reproduction but have not sat down and pulled numbers off of the barrel or other parts yet.

The numbers on the barrel are very important on an M1D. How did you know what to pay for it without knowing if it has a real D barrel?
