I've had this pair of cast iron "brackets" kicking about in my garage for years but I've no idea what they are from or what purpose they serve. As far as I know I don't believe that they are military related but they could be from just about anything.

The "brackets" don't appear to be handed and both appear to be the same.

I did wonder if they came from a treadle sowing machine but I can't really see from what part.

I have no idea what it is either but I remember reading somewhere that the U.S. WWII Ordnance Department used 7 character part numbers starting sometime in late 1943. Perhaps you should try researching foundries that used a cat as a trademark.

They aren't from a Singer sewing machine. I have one.

We did have one and somehow the treadle base has disappeared over the last 50 years, without trace, hence me wondering if these were part of it.

It is also possible that they were part of a paraffin or gas stove.

Looking at the Singer treadle sewing machine I turned into a side table for my wife, there are no metal parts that even faintly correspond to those in your pictures.

I'd second that, though not sure how "portable".

From my years of scrapping items these look like gas supply burners of some type for a very large stove. Might be a commercial type. Flat part at end sits on back of stove. Center hole is for gas to go to burner. Front round is to accept gas supply like.

Thanks for all the replies; I think that we've agreed that they're off a stove. Now I need to do is find a stove missing it's burners.
