    T-Gewehr Mystery

    Good Afternoon,

Trying to understand what is the purpose of some T-Gewehr's sights having a metal bar on their underside with a corresponding slot cut into the stock. Thanks, Randy

Looks like a lightening cut to me.

    Hi Jim,

Please look at the other picture. You will see a bar below the sight tube that fits into that slot. What is the bar for?

    Thanks,
    Randy

I see it now, looked different when I looked before. Is the sight base all one piece machined with the barrel? Is it part of the barrel? Or is is sweated or slipped on? If it's part of the barrel, it would fit into the barrel and action vise/wrench. If the sight was slipped on perhaps to help slide it on.
    Regards, Jim

As a guess, I would propose an alignment feature to set the rear sight base to the correct position. Dont believe it would be used as a surface to torque the barrel into place

Seems like this feature was added later in the series. My rifle is #265 and does not have the bar/slot. Thanks, Randy
