No5 Rear Sight Screw Size

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows the size of the thread used on the No5 singer style sights?

I know its a single pitch, just unsure about the size and TPI.

Im trying to figure out if i can use an No5 elevation screw and modify it to a windage screw on a different sight.

The No4 (1300yd) sight screw is a 'double thread' screw, the No5 (800yd) sight screw is not only a slighly bigger diameter and a coarser thread it is also just a single thread.

According to the SAIS the "Screw adjusting, backsight" is noted as being a "unique thread only used on the No5".


I guess it will depend on what thread size / type is on the windage sight.

From limited amount of measuring I can do without taking one apart, appears to be 0.139 thou with about 38tpi.

It is for a trial sight which was used on a No5 .22 trials rifle (Skennerton, pg297).

Mine has broken off the head so i only have the threaded part left. This is how i bought it, thought it was a common sight but i have been told the right collector may find the sight more valuable than the No.8 rifle its on.

From what i have measured, my thread appears to be 1/8" and about 40 TPI, single pitch. I was thinking of trying to get a jungle carbine elevation screw so i can turn and cut the required thread on the section that isn't threaded. This will allow me to use the standard click section and knurl, which appear to be the same.

If the screw is the size you say I wonder how close it is to 1/8" Model Engineering thread which appears to also be 40 T.P.I and is Whitworth form, i.e. 55 degree thread angle.
