Civil Defence Training 1960's

The following photos were taken on Civil Defence Corps training courses during the 1960's. As far as I am aware these photos have not been seen online before.

The country house is Danbury Park House near Chelmsford, Essex which was a Civil Defence and ambulance service training school. The next 3 photos are Bishops Waltham, Hampshire, Civil Defence and ambulance service training school. These Civil Defence training schools had training grounds with "simulated bomb damaged buildings". The photo with the ambulance in it has a simulated casualty on a stretcher right at the bottom of the image. The "simulated casualty" is supposed to be unconscious but has "come round" because his "simulated rescuer" has is boot resting on him.

The field kitchen photo was taken on a Civil Defence field catering course and shows a petrol fuelled stove. Can anyone shed any light on this type of stove?

In the third picture, the VW Microbus looks like our 1959 model except the mud flaps.

The first 2 pics are of original Civil Defence Corps recruitment posters dating to the 1950's or early 60's. The middle pic was taken in May 1966 at the army school of Civil Defence, Devizes, when Wiltshire were hosting a Dorset Division exercise. This basic field kitchen was made using materials found on site.

The 4th pic of the Auxiliary Fire Service was taken on the 9th March 1963 at Swindon fire station and is "Exercise Four Shires" prior to departure. Among the vehicles that can be seen are Green Goddess Fire appliances, Land Rovers and the Bedford lorry with the large bodywork on the back, far left, is a mobile control unit.

The last pic was taken November 1st 1958 at Charmy Down airfield near Bath and is "Exercise Convex". Again many Green Goddess fire appliances can be seen in this pic.

In 1952 the Chrysler Air Raid Siren used the 180-HP, 331-cubic-inch Chrysler Hemi engine and a three-stage compressor to create the loudest siren (138 dB) ever produced. Its remarkable specifications include a compressor discharge volume of 2,600 cubic feet per minute at 7 psi and a residential coverage area of approximately 16 square miles. In comparison, the electric sirens commonly used today for tornado and tsunami warnings can alert about four square miles.
