Francotte Revolver won Dec. 1885 by Gentlemen Cadet J. Rose of Royal Military College

Can anyone assist me in researching who Gentlemen Cadet J. Rose of the Royal Military College was, who had won a cased Frenchicon Auguste Francotte & Cie .577 caliber revolver in December 1885 in "Tactics"?

    Thank you!

Try asking on the british militaria forum. There are a lot of gents, over there, with way more knowledge and reference sources for what you are researching.

The Army List for subsequent years would be one source.

I think I found him. Cadet J. Rose of the Royal Military College could be(come) Captain John Rose who was born 11th January 1866 and died unmarried on 24th October 1896 in Egypt. He was son of James Rose, 23rd of Kilravock, a Britishicon Army officer. Fits pretty spot on since he would be 19 when he won the revolver.

23rd Baron of Kilravock Kilravock Castle - Wikipedia

Kilravock Castle has been continuously tenanted by the Roses, a family of Norman origin. They settled at Kilravock in 1293, since which date son has succeeded father without the interposition of a collateral heir, an instance of direct descent unique in Scottish history.[8][11]

Moreover, many Roses have borne the Christian name of Hugh, and only one attained to a higher social rank than that of laird.
