Dual purpose muzzle cover on the carbine?

I think so...was also wondering, maybe glider troops? I know he could have picked the carbine up anywhere but thought they look like maybe...

Note what appears to be a mag pouch attached to the front of the (Carbine) guy's left boot. Not sure what's attached to the back...

Also, one other odd thing about the point man, there is no mag in his Carbine.
