    Question 03A3 bolt

I have a Remington 1903A3 #38xxxxx with a straight handle bolt and I was wondering if anyone can give me more info on the bolt. The only markings I see on the bolt are a punch mark under the handle and what looks like a small S under the safety lug. I was recently told this may be unsafe to fire and I would like other opinions before I put any more rounds through the rifle.

    Thanks!

    Straight Handle Bolt

Your bolt, marked with a small "S" under the safety lug, is indeed an early casehardened bolt which is considered by many as being unsafe for firing. Follow the link for additional information:

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I will start searching for a new bolt body. As far as I can tell everything else on the rifle is correct for the serial number and it is all Remington marked so maybe I can find the correct bolt body and make it safe to fire again.

I was in The Dealers Warehouse in Modesto, Ca this AM. I thought I saw 1-2 mint Remington bolts for sale. Decent prices. Good luck.
