Auction win for these 2 rifles paid $350 inc shipping. Ross has a monte carlo stock and the load assistance device has been removed to make it a hunting rifle.

The debate has begun about restoring it....which is an expensive problem for the stock but what other parts may be missing internally related to the load assist device?

Probably only the thumbpiece has been cut off. Shouldn't be difficult to find a replacement.
You are going to need a complete stock set with all the related fittings, from buttplate to nosecap. That is going to be something of a challenge.

My son took it apart and says pieces are missing. We will get picks when we can.

It looks to me like the barrel has been set back. We were just talking about one of those barrels too, short knoxform. Current production stocks are available...but the small parts can be hard to get.

Thousands of Mk. II*** rifles were supplied to the US in 1917. Some had their barrels set back. The shank in front of the receiver ring is shorter than if the barrel had not been altered.

The thumbpiece is riveted to the magazine follower. Not unusual for it to be removed when a rifle was sporterized. Replacing the magazine follower w/thumbpiece is easy enough to do.
When made, the rifle had a magazine cutoff in the front of the trigger guard and a spring. Can't see it in your photos.

At left the picture of yours, center a drawing of original. At right another that has been turned back to recut the chamber.

Note how wide the area that should be in front of the barrel ring, .850"...Yours might measure .250". Yours has had the barrel set back and recut an enlarged chamber. And...the pipe wrench mark on the barrel.

Chambers were to say the least generous. That was to allow low tolerance ammo to fit and allow some crud to go in besides and still function. When they recut the chamber it would be tighter. The point is, EVERYTHING was done to this rifle. You can't restore it in a standard stock because the barrel is now shorter. It's a shooter, if it's safe.

My son had the rifle apart and I'm confident someone smithed this gun to fit the stock. The magazine box is sheet steel formed then spot welded to the bottom plate.

I can't get pics to load from my phone but I will get them posted on Monday. That will give me a chance to compare what I have to a diagram.
