1889 Schmidt Rubin Misfires

Good Morning,

My usually good tack-drive was a bit testy yesterday at the range with mostly good primer strikes followed by a series of shallow strikes. I need some information to get it going again:

1. Length of firing pin/striker
2. Where to get a new or "newer" mainspring if needed

What ammo are you using? Are you absolutely certain the bolt is FULLY closing? The back of the bolt handle will go under flush with the back of the receiver, or you will get the exact symptoms you describe. I can strip my 1889 bolt and measure it, but I don't want to do that unless we know we really need to know.

Mine comes in at 4.937" if that helps.

Thanks. I am 4.941". I have done a very thorough cleaning and will give it another try in two weeks. There has also been a suggestion that I make sure the bolt is closed all the way.

Good. Just a bit of debris in the firing pin channel could stop the pin from full travel. Sounds like the pin has plenty of length. Mine is a bit shorter, but has been completely reliable.

I am using PPU ammunition with a 20% powder reduction.
