    Disappointed in carbine

I bought this many years ago, thought it was a carbine, but now realize its probably just parts.
the receiver is marked Model 1898 serial no. 4817xx.
stock has a cartouche date 1901 with no sling swivel.
has an 1899 handguard and an 1896 carbine rear sight.
    barrel is 22 inches long.
front sight has a tiny c on the blade.
which year or serial no. receiver should I look for to complete my carbine?
    Thank you Steve

That's a very late receiver. It's possible it was assembled as a carbine during the latter days of production.

Only 5000 98 carbine were ever made. They are scarce and hard to document. None were made or assembled in 1901 and finding a correct receiver would be almost imposible. There are only records (SRS) of 150 of these carbines or 3%. There are 52 in the 119xxx range, 48 in 120xxx range, and 13 in the 118xxx range. Individual (1 only) guns span from 112864 to 133919. There are 3 in the lower 127xxx range but none in 128 or 129. So even if you find a reciever in the 112 to 133 range, odds are it was a rifle.

Rifle were cut down and sold by many commercial firms, using surplus c barrels or 1903 sights, in the 1930's for hunting.

I purchased a Kragicon several years ago. It seems it was converted for hunting. I am looking for breakdown so I find missing parts to bring it back to origional as possiable.
