7.62x38R. RELOADING???

Just picked up one of these goofy things. Anybody help me out with reloading this cartridge? What dies work, Hope to use cast bullets so what would be a good mould to use and what dia. to size bullet?

I'm curious about this too. I can't say as I've ever heard about reloading for this cartridge.

On page 843 of the "Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions" they call the cartridge the 7.62 Russian Nagant or 7.62 Nagant Revolver as well.

bullet weight- 100 grn
type - lead
powder - 3.8grn Bulls Eye
velocity - 900fps

make from - 32-20 Winchester. Taper expand to .300 dia. F/L size. Square case mouth. Chamfer and fire form. Case is short, but OK. You may also re-body a 38 acp with 11/32 dia tubeing and f/l resize. Use andy 30 cal mould to produce 150grn projectiles and cut to equal 100 to 105 grains. Seat bullet to completely inside the case and apply roll crimp to case mouth. It may be necessary to turn the 32-20 rim to the .388 dia.

i use the starline Nagant brass for my reloading needs. Converting .32020 works, but why bother when real brass is easily had? Starline doesn;t ship to Canada, but you can buy it on e-bay, Gunbroker, etc. from dealers who DO ship to Canada.

Lee makes dies for this caliber, as do CH4D. Neither maker has it on their website if I recall, so call and ask for it special as they are limited production dies.

I use 110gr cast bullets intended for the M1 carbine - works fine. The brass does deform a bit and the cartridges look a little weird, but they work fine. Annealing will prolong brass life.

What do you use for a shell holder?? There is no starline brass to be had in the states ,all dist. sold out. I did manage to get a coulple of hundred off EBAY.
