Export from US of No. 32 Scope

Hello All, I have decided to put a No32 Mark 3 scope on auction and would like to check on the legality (and procedure) of shipping it to a winning bidder outside the US. I suspect the British Commonwealth Countries could be a possible destination. It is just the scope, no mount. Any advice would be appreciated.

Make it worldwide, it's just a telescope. Even as a rifle scope, look at all the Zeiss ones as well as tons of others there right now. It just ain't a problem

I will assume that this is not a problem. I looked on some previous posts, and it seemed like some members outside the US were concerned that many sellers in the US limited sales within that country and I was wondering why any one would not ship international, at least for accessories not firearms. I just don't want any potential buyer to become aggravated if it is found not possible to ship to them. Thanks again.

US sellers are famous/notorious for not shipping/selling overseas, everything from text books to what have you. Mostly its sellers who are keeping their selling process as streamlined as possible and don't want to use up time filling out tons of little customs declarations. Its not smart when money is tight and theres customers trying to give you money but there you go, not everything's logical.
FYI I've had very poor mailing results to Italy France and Spain, with a lot of lost/stolen mail, 10-100%, and if you sell to them insist on a full price declaration on the customs form because that is also the insured value. If it gets lost, like so much of my mail has, then you only get the declared amount. I just lost $450 on a couple of items to Spain, gone and my post office won't insure spain as they're too risky.

I wouldn't be so sure. I corresponded with an eBay seller recently who tried to ship an old (WWI era) German scope to Canada. It was picked out as it crossed the line and that was that, not to be seen again. He then got himself some kind of license from US authorities.

The $100 limit still applies as far as I know. Barrels, breech blocks, bolts, and receivers are not exportable without a DSP5 Export license from the Office of Defense Trade Control, US DOS. They aren't importable to the USA at all as of July 2005. An aftermarket scope mount isn't regulated for import or export to/from the USA so I don't know what went wrong there. Telescopes must be exported on a DSP5 for military types and a Department of Commerce Snap-R export license for commercial types including red dot sights. Certain scopes like the ACOG and other close combat and long range sniper scopes are not exportable at all unless they are going to a police or military end user. The fine for violating these rules here in the USA is $1,000,000.00 per violation. That's enough to make many companies prefer not to bother. The yearly ODTC registration is also VERY expensive. The U.S Dept. of Commerce Snap-R registration is free for the doing. Both ODTC, Dept of Commerce, and BATFE Imports Branch for that matter have been trying to do good/efficient work for the past few years so you can dispell the rumours of conspiracy or politics being involved. I work with these folks on a weekly basis, have been to the conferences and my examiners and the Chiefs are very good people trying to do a big job with small resources. Brian

Brian, I may totally out to luch on this but there was a rumor circulating in Canada that the limit for export to Canada was $500. I think Numerich and Brownells have that limit. Again, it's just hear say. I can't seem to get any clear answers from the BATF on this, other than the information you've given.
