I bought it from a gunnnutz member. He used to live on the east coast of Canadaicon & bought it about ten years ago. The story is it has been in Canada since the late 60's. This member had quite the colletion at one point. No import marks of any kind.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. See, that wasn't hard to do. The Canadians get alot of good stuff, much better than we can get. The dark stuff in the handguard is what the Russians used for floating the barrel, it's like a wax paper or felt. I just read about that today over on gunboards. No import mark is a plus. The Rguns snipers have a lot of variations never seen before ,so nothing is a surprise anymore. One guy got a PU sniper that had been also drilled for a PEM sidemount.

I just compared my rifle to the one on the MKLicon & interestingly enough, that rifle has some # stamped on the butt too. Also noticed the scope covers have the same pattern in the strap. I wonder if my rifle was refurbed & scrubbed because it was destined to be military aid to a country the soviets didn't want to be seen helping?
