Help on Serial Number
I'm looking at a rifle from a guy and he says its a 1954 model No.4 with a serial number of H253XXA. I thought all post war Faz's, which he says it is, were a PF prefix? War time was with an H correct? He does have a 43 as well with a serial number of PF187XXX. Need some help please.

Just a guess, but perhaps it is a post-war FTR rifle and that is the date he sees and thinks is the date of manufacture. Two digits?
Oh wait, I think he's just got the two mixed up. The PF is a post war Mk2 prefix.

Reason: typo

Thats what I am thinking as well. The " H " prefix is a wartime production correct? What does the " A " suffix mean?
-
Mostly it means it's a war time Fazackerly.
"Officially". the "A" suffix means there's some non-interchangability of the rifle w/ respect to others, usually some minor component. Fazackerly seems to marked about al their wartime production w/ the suffix, possibly just to "CYA". If you find a WWII Fazackely w/o the suffix, do PLEASE report it!

The A suffix does indeed mean that the rifle has some non-interchangeable parts. (Often because the rifle was early Fazackerly production using some MkVI parts from Enfield.)
Second, if the rifle was 1950s Fazackerly production, one would expect the serial number to start with PF and it would be a MK2.
That leaves FTR. However that would mean that it should be marked so and as a distinguished contributor here has pointed out, the A suffix rifles were actively sort out after the war and destroyed.
Has anyone any thoughts on it being from Pakistan? Not my field.

Is it possible then that the rifle with the A suffix is an oddity, and worth investing in?

CelticCollector, It's been my experiance that an A suffix on a Fazakerley rifle is the norm. I think Surpmil is correct, the owner is confused.

I have a post war Faz with no A suffix and a PF prefix like I'm sure his 54 is as well. Just curious about the 43. Just wanting to make sure it isn't one of the pieced together Enfields that are out there from some importer makin stuff just to sell it.
-
A '43 can be expected to have the "A" tail.
The '54- a suffix would be odd.
(Fazackerly only!)

Faz started using the PF prefix in 48 with the last of the MkI's and continued until 1955. H should be 42-43 Faz. The A suffix is a non standard part. I think your seller has transposed the two rifles.
I must be the odd man out, I have about a dozen Faz's and none of them have the A suffix. The only A suffix I have is a 43 Maltby.
