    Rock-ola Rear Sight Question

I have Rock-ola 45501XX. It has an I.R.Co Type III Adjustable stamped rear sight. According to Riesch, this would not be correct until #6.2 mil.

That said, I just got my copy of War Baby. On pg. 399, Ruth says, " Rear Sight, Type F (windage-adjustable, stamped) ...I.R. Co...begun in second SN block and used through last SN block to end of production." my carbine IS in the second block (4532100 - 4632099).

I find it unusual as Ruth also says that Type A flip sights were still in use in the third and fourth blocks of production. Is it so that Rock-ola mixed in adjustable sights before discontinuing flip sights? I know that often newer parts went to the top of the parts bins. Or, is this an error in War Baby. I always "assumed" my Type III sights were added during post war rebuild.

    Thanks for any input.

The adjustables were in short supply at first

apparently arriving in trickles. Winchester mixed sights a lot. Your best answer is to look at the staking or lack of it. If the adjustable was original, it will probably have just punch marks in the appropriate areas with no stake slashes nearby. My NPM has had the flip removed, it was marked with a line type stake mark and the new PI adjustable is marked/held with punch marks. Here is my Winchester with factory punch marks, no staking can bee seen. This carbine left the factory with this sight.

    Thanks Dave

Here's mine. It Looks like yours. Has a punch mark as shown and another at the rear of the dovetail opposing this one. No stake marks. Perhaps it was installed at the factory after all.
