Inland Type2 Trigger Housing - why does it have these cuts?

I bought this trigger housing at a gun show on Friday and then worried about some "cuts" on the left side of the rear magazine wall. At first I thought I got a bargain for $25, but then had second thoughts. When I got home I checked in my 6th ed. Riesch book and there's a picture on page 73 of a Type VI with the same "cuts" on it. Is this a manufacturing "screw up," or did they have a reason for it? The TH appears to be reparked and in fairly good condition other than the odd machine marks. I also started trying to figure out if the logo is .14" or .16" then noticed that only applies to Type I housings, and whether they were made before or after mid '42. I don't know if you guys ever tried measuring the logo's but there's about .02" difference whether you include the border of the logo, or not. Mine measures .16" including the border and the book says it should be .14" so I guess you're not supposed to include it when measuring. Sound right?

The earliest logo was taller..very early

I just bought an Inland Type II from a very trusted source, and it does not have those cuts. In fact, I'm looking for another one, so I'm curious as to why yours has cuts and mine does not. My Type VI does have those cuts though.

Your trigger housing was modified to accept M2 carbine parts, the cuts on the wall are for the selector spring.

Thanks Scott. Yep, it's right there on page 73 in Riesch. I should have looked there when USGI mentioned it.

Correct. Riesch says that some non-type VI trigger housing were modified to type VI
