Question on my Inland stock
I recently acquired an Inland carbine, SN 1721XX. The stock has this

Is this a flaming bomb? The stock had been refinished at some point and most of the other cartouches were sanded down.

To some this is obviously a flaming bomb, but I've owned carbines for several years and have just now realized that some of the small stampings that I thought were "8's" or "0's" are actually bombs. The marks that have "figuring" or individual flames are easy to make out. Marks like yours, with just the one "flame" are not as easily recoginized - especially when they are very small and partially struck. - Bob
Just saw your front sight - it looks familiar! I have an all early feature S'G' and below is mine. Some will tell you "done by a hunter" - I'm starting to think "done by an armorer in the field."

Yah, it was your advice over at the CMP
forum that stopped me from replacing my earless sight. Thanks.
As you can see, I took your advice and came by here. I'll also be sending my data sheet to the Carbine Club.
BTW, why would the bomb be on the stock? Is that usual?

Nice rifle, leave as is. G.I's sometimes cut off the ears.
I believe that is the right stock for your serial number.
Some of the earlier I cut Inlands had the flaming bomb and a small CC in the sling well.
Painter has one, maybe he will post some pics of his.
I have one stamped like yours only oval cut.
What does it have for a TH parts?
Thanks for the pics.....Frank

Order NL 346 from the CC. It has information on Inland first block carbines.
