Keep in mind that sniper weapons used in combat are not fired as much as they are on the rifle range, and don't tend to lose there zero as long as they are not dropped hard or dissasembled. Keep in mind that in combat it's not how many you shoot, it's who you shoot that counts. A sniper may only fire 2 or 3 rounds in a 24 hour mission. The Nimrod scope is quick and easy to use in combat, and holds up very well in those conditions.
Why would the USMC use an Israeli sniper rifle?

Thanks for the info Johnny. Now that I have it back to some form of normal I can just let it wear in. I am still interested in knowing any accuracy mods the IDF did, if any.

This one had the serial # scratched into the stock so I am guessing it was at least kept with the rifle with the matching # for some period of time.

    Hey Rotor,
The IDF M14icon's were nothing more than M14 rifles fitted with the Nimrod scope and mount. Some of them were glass bedded such as our M21 and NM M14 rifles, most were not. Some still had there wood stocks, but most of them were had there own IDF design like yours. The M21 and NM weapons that they were givin did have all of they gas system modifications, the others did not. Some of the fiberglass stocks were painted with a desert cmmo some black and some with that same finnish that is on yours. This was/is a very effctive and leathel sniper weapon.
The only real reason that the IDF is replaceing them is the lack of spare parts to keep them running as is needed with any military weapon.

Hi all - I've been looking around for some time for one of these "repatriated" Israeli M14 sniper rifles that Springfield brought back in the 90's. I had one of these in the late 80's, and these basically USGI M14's that did have some tuning done to the actions, along with the mounted scopes and Harris bipods.

Rotor - great job refinishing that rifle and thanks for sharing the details and pics.

Please do contact me if you know of one of these Israeli M1Aicon's / M14's for sale.

    Thanks.
