SVT-40 Tokarov
Any ideas on what one can do to improve accuracy in an SVT-40 Tokarov. 5 shots groups at 100 yards are in the 4.5 to 6.5 inch range, often with 2 or 3 bullets clustering rather tightly.
The one thought I have at the moment is to rework the bedding to ensure everything is nice and tight. This worked on my son's LE #4 mk 1. I would apprecaite any input from those who have worked on the SVT-40.
I will be unable to respond to any posts until tomorrow. thanks in advance to any who respond. GRF

sounds like a bedding problem

Is there an accuracy 'smith for SVT's? It sure would be nice to tap into that knowledge base.
I recrowned one a few years back, and that helped that particular rifle a bunch. Otherwise, I've never had one with which to experiment. Got a Bubba'd one w/ a side mounted scope monstrosity, but its barrel is a sewer pipe.

4.5~6.5 inches at 100 yards, whats wrong with that?
What ammo are you using? Do you hand load quality rounds for it?

Cheers

I was hoping to use this rifle once my son is out of University for a father son milsurp hunt. We often gets shots at mule deer in southern Alberta at 200 yards plus.
I run Privi Partisan factory through the rifle. I have done some reloading for the SVT but the brass takes such a beating that I leave the reloaded ammunition for my son's Mosin Nagant now.
Nice rifle. GRF

Try some milspec that is copper washed steel case. Accuracy often varies with different ammo. Aimsurplus might have some. It will be 147grain. It is corrosive so run three very wet windex patches thru barrel to remove corrosive salts. Then clean normally. Do this on the same day you shoot. Leaving the salt in your barrel for even a week could start to damage the bore. Really.
If you EVER find copper washed steel case ammo with yellow stripe on bullet, BUY all you can afford. This is heavy ball(182 grain) and it is superbly accurate in Mosin 91/30 PUs and the SVT.

I have that copper washed with yellow tip, i agree works really nice, especially in 91/30 or M44, seems a bit heavy for my SVTs liking.

I think I'm having a similar problem. I just got one and took it to the range yesterday. My first group was surprisingly good at 3". After about 10 rounds the accuracy decreased to 6" or more grouping. My first thought is that the barrel was hitting the stock somewhere, but it doesn't appear to be. I think shooting it loosened the stock fit (original owner didn't fire apparently after buying it in the 90's).

I've found my SVT to be pretty inconsistent and at times strings vertically.
