New Lithgow MKIII

Been keeping an eye out for one of the WWII Lithgow MKIII's and finally nailed one today at an on-line sale.





Auction description advised:
Cal. 303 British. S# E8652. Front of receiver has "A" broad arrow "F". Dated 1942. Nice appearing arsenal rebuild. Appearing unused since. Bolt handle numbered differently. CONDITION: all aspects near excellent with a good to very good bore.

That's the way to get them, now find a bayonet to match. And clips and sling...

Maybe a new nose cap as it appears to have had the bayonet boss and mount removed, or is that just how the photo has been cropped?

It looks as though the woodwork has been power sanded to within an inch of its life! Pic 5 and 6, the wood should always be proud of the metalwork

Wow, that no bayonet capability having nose cap changes the whole look of the package. Weird, almost! But if you go looking for a replacement, the "windowed" sight protectors are distinctly Australian.

Replacement nose caps are not too hard to come by in Australia via the internet.

Interesting that your rifle has the same A F marking I questioned in my post regarding my 1941 Lithgow. If you're going to shoot it, let us know how it does.
