Swedish Mauser M1896 M96 1915 (Carl Gustafs)
I know pictures are the best way to get an idea of a guns value but I found a Swedish
Mauser Carl Gustafs M1896 M96 1915. Everything seems to be matching even the stock rings. The only thing I could not find the serial on was the stock and I'm assuming it could be under the metal. It has a what looks like a brass plate on the side of the butt of the stock where the bolt tool is on other mausers. Bluing is conservatively 80% +. I didn't see any inport marks on it. Has minimal wear for a 100 year old rifle. How desirable are these guns? Is the 6.5x55mm cartridge hard to find? Can I get a ballpark value on these things? Any iformation would be great - Thanks!

Congrats to your Swede! Keep it andshoot it. The ammo for the 6.5x55mm is very common and PRVI has cheap but good ones. The disk can tell you the bore diameter, the quality of the barrel and if it was sighted in for the newer type of 6,5mm ammo. The value of this rifle is rising. Over here you can find good ones for 600Euros which is around $800. And they´re getting rare. Pics would be great to see! Has it standart iron sights or a diopter?

Be aware that the stock disk may not belong to that rifle. The only way to know what the bore condition is like is to have a look. The serial number on the stock may well be in the barrel channel and you need to take it apart to see.
My m38 has the most worn barrel on a swede I have seen and still shoots like stink. Reloading is easy as components are everywhere and the 6.5 swede is chambered in some modern rifles so it won't be going anywhere in a hurry.
I am sure you will love it as everyone who is lucky enough to have one does.

I haven't bought the rifle yet as I am new to this and wanted get get some feed back before I buy it. Based on the information I received here I'm really interested in it now. It is priced at $429.00. I'll have to see if the gun store will let me disassemble it for further investigation. Thanks guys, and as soon as I purchase it I will be sure to get pictures up.
