home guard rifle

Hi all,
i have the opportunity to purchase a red banded eddystone that i believe was issued to the English home guard during WW2. The owner has fired it and says it is all god that is the barrel is like new , great condition etc, hopefully pics to follow.

Is there anything to be aware of before purchase?

P.S. Also what is the expected grouping capacity of these rifles if all is correct?

the red band indicates its not the standard issue cartrige , could be england or canada or any commonwealth area that issued the 303 as standard , the markings will tell that tale ,

these are fine shooting rifles in good nick , and they were intended for battle of 300/600 yds with minute of man accuracy , most will shoot excellent groups ,

we need to see some photos - but congrats

That's my Eddystone, a Lend-Lease rifle with Canadian markings. After Canadian service, it went to Denmark, where the barrel was replaced. eventually, it came back to the States, and then to me.





This '17 is wonderful shooter, no doubt because of the excellent Danish barrel. When will you come across a bit of history like that again? Buy it, man!

yeah its the same, has the canadian arrow through circle stamp on the butt and 2 numbers which I am assuming are rack or issue numbers. I haven't got it at the moment I have the wood which has the R for remington stamped in all the wood except the rear handguard which is W marked. I have seen the reciever and barrel and it is eddystone and not a danish barrel i think but when i get it home and de gunged, yes it still has the cosmoline all through the working parts, i will get it together and take some pics and show them here. the barrel looks like its new inside.which is great because i intend to use it for service rifle shooting here in Australia.

My M1917 has the Canadian stamps in the stock and was also later sent to Denmark. I have a question. Has the front sight of yours been replaced with the roll pin like mine? Mine still has the orignal barrel and shoots great...
