Feeling right frisky are we?

Well JM, I don't know if you are feeling frisky, but speaking for myself, the spirit is willing even if the flesh is a bit wobbly. I think the conversion would be simpler than making a stock of "hand-carved" cartridge cases.

25 Remington is an entirely different animal. It's just a rimless version of the 25-35 Winchester. The 25 Stevens long looks like a scaled up 22 magnum, more or less.

Some of the cartridge companies will occasionally make a special run of obsolete rim fire ammunition, but I don't ever recall the .25 Stevens being one of them.

Personally I don't think the small No. 4 Remington RB is up to the .25-20 Winchester round.

The 25 rimfires have been gone for a long time. 40 years ago I looked for almost a year for 25 Stevens and it was impossible to find then so good luck trying to find it now and if by some stroke of luck you do find it then there is the fact that there will most likely be a lot more duds then good rounds. The last loading was at the beginning of WW2 by Remington and it has not been available since then.

I appreciate all the responses, but there will be no reaming, conversions, or alterations of any kind on this piece.

I appreciate that. I have the same attitude, which is why I am possibly the only person in this country shooting a .44 rf revolver. But that seems to leave you with the arduous do-it-yourself option as the only possibility if you want to shoot the rifle. Any rf ammo you can find in obsolete calibers is also going to be something that collectors would rather not see destroyed, even if it will still fire (which is doubtful).

So DIY cartridges or wallhanger? It's your choice.

I'm not sure if my granddad wants to shoot it or not. If so, it would just be a one time thing just for the sake of doing it. I know that he mainly just wants the ammunition as a collectible item.
