stake marks
Broke down the gun and removed the scope mount, It was then I noticed that the stock had been "coped" a bit to accommodate the scope mount. It wasn't a total hatchet job, you could tell it was done by some one with a bit of skill. None the less, with out the mount there is a small but noticeable gap on one side. Stock is marked "SI "hand guard is marked"HI" .

I added one of those in the mid 1970's. I do not remember where I got it but I put on a 2.5x post reticule Bushnell on it. It also had a shell deflector to put the brass at your feet. I had also sporterized it by removing the bayonet lug and putting it into a Bishop stock with a flat metal hand-guard. Later I put the issue sight back on it. A few years ago I looked at my Mom's house for the stock but no dice. I ended up getting a potbelly SA stock and and AMCO barrel band to put it back to as received (1960's DCM/NRA membership purchase). Except for the hole and the bruising the front sight ears took when I removed it the first time it looks pretty good.
