Barrel stamp P

hi guys, does anyone know what manufacturer has a capitol P as the only mark on the barrel of a Saginaw carbine? ser number says 3306268. stock has cannons and RMC in a box also in sling cut out. has small barrel band, M2 ball round has 3/16ths bullet showing. bright shinny bore. P is bout 1 1/2 inches ahead of barrel band on top of barrel. thanks ron

As far as I remember All usgi m1 carbine barrels (war-time) were marked behind the front sight.
Some like Buffalo Arms may have just a small BA stamped on top.
Winchesters will have a W stamp and the intertwined PW in the ovaled circle.
Can you measure the diameter of the barrel about 1" below the rear of the front sight?
Look for a caliper reading of 0.597-0.600.
Some over the years have been found turned down to remove Import markings.
Can you see any markings on the flat underside of the barrel?
Also look on the sides and front of the gas cylinder for markings.

Pictures of these areas may help determine the maker. Will tell us if the gas cylinder is the swaged on type or if the barrel and gas cylinder were milled from one piece.

thanks painter, i found a stamp of some sort on barrel where yours is marked, looks like a big s with a small Capitol a. gas block says sg. barrel measures .5875. Has big SG on left side receiver next to barrel. im just hoping its gi of some sort. im just learning about this weapon. i know lots more on M1's but the carbine is different. lots of different makers and mix of partsl i appreciate your help. ron

these are a addiction to us.
The SG on the left side of your receiver is a marking from Saginaw steering Gear, the maker of your 3,3 mil carbine.
I do believe you may have a replacement barrel made by Springfield Armory.
I'll have to use the Google search here to find a link, because I've never held a SA barrel and not sure how/where they were marked.
I was just searching info about the Herlo barrels, HOPING you didn't have one of those.

Feel free to ask and search, lots to learn about these.

Herlo??? not good? need more info. ahahha thanks. My first M1 is a SA correct except the hammer, has 651833 ser # has march 42 on the barrel with a little peck on it. stock has correct cartouschs and circle Ps. wife said she liked it. so i got another. a correct SA from CMP. gun looks brand new, wife stopped liking it. hhahahah then a 03A3 Rem, all correct from cmp. then a karibiner with the swastickas, then a mossin, then this carbine, i feel i cant help my self, hahahh can i take somethin for it ?? oh also got the colt hbar, not ww2 though. hahahahah ron

OK heads up,
There were 2 Springfield armories,
You'll be looking for info about the original SA not the SA INC.

thanks Charlie, i do appreciate the help. the RMC stock with crossed cannons is almost perfect. it has one big dime sized dent next to sling ring. but small minors after that. i will try to take a pic of the faint markings on the bottom of barrel. i just got the rifle from a old man at our gun club vintage match, he said he needed the money worse than the gun. i bought it mostly just to help him out. didnt even know what i bought. i will start to read and learn more on the rifle. now , i dont have a crasanthamum ???!!! ah so. hahhahah ron

painter,hello i also have the flaiming bomb on the flat just above the gas port, althought mine is quite faint,its on a winchester.
what mfg. and year is the one you have in the pic?--charles

The barrel with the ordnance bomb above is on a WRA serial# 1,030,621, un-dated barrel, made roughly Feb/March 1943.
The first 2 pics are from Inland barrels, mid 1944
