Yes, it looks out of whack. Wonder why?

Hmm I did not notice that before. I'll check to see if I'm getting any fore/aft movement. Or I'll just give the action a little nudge rearwards and see if that helps

I think the Standard Products rebuild is a neat feature
History and a mark to prove it. I think that on a rebuild it enhances the value to know where and by whom it was rebuilt. If the push safety is legit, it was done early. You'll like NPMs, they are good carbines.

Thanks! Speaking of the rebuild, anyone have any ideas what the symbols next to the rebuild stamp might be? Looks to be a Δ and either a II or H

I've got one, and recently found out that the last line of the stamp "RWH" is probably the inspector's initials. - Bob
Sorry, you are probably talking about the stamp to the left - I don't know about that one.

StdPro's rebuild contract started over a year after MWO-6 was issued. That, along with the recoil plate fit problem, suggests strongly that the stock did not leave StdPro with that action in it.

Assuming the recoil plate issue is user error (i.e. the guy before me installing the action incorrectly) what makes you think the stock isn't original?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The MWO to change to the flip safety was issued over a year before StdPro's rebuild contract, so barring some very unusual circumstance, the safety would not be a push type.
The misalignment of the recoil plate is easy enough to check, but my concern would be a bent or twisted stock or a broken out plug around the recoil plate screw that has been improperly glued back in. There should be very little play between recoil plate and receiver tang - almost none - that's why it seemed odd.
Several really talented stock repair folks around here if my guess turns out to be correct. A few years ago I bought an 03A3 with a badly shattered stock. With nothing more than basic skills with wood, I got it fixed and shooting straight - and learned an awful lot about how all the innards worked together. Hope yours is a simpler fix, but even thinking through the process will help you gain a better understanding.

I have a RSG field replacement stock, it fits the recoil plate just like this one does....loose...like it was cut too big from the beginning...
