Well that book on the little war against Cashmere would have been fascinating. But was it Rayon or Silk on the opposing team I wonder?

And for those still wondering, Yahoo has this wonderful feature called "exact search". Enter a string of text, poussez le bouton, et voila!
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.

hmmm, just wondering, if a No1 mkIII or a No4 had the chambers cut out to an oval shape so the monsoonal rain could drain out if they were loaded muzzle up, would that mean a No5, with many times the "catchment" area in the flash hider cone, would need a bigger oval to drain more water?
    Good one

Nah, that's the reason the barrels shorter, the water gets away quicker.

Well... it seems to have been left to die a slow and painfull death, having rolled off the front page of the board.

Nu-uh just added a little kicker, a previous quote from the same source see if he'll come out to play...

Well Brad, that cost me an arsekicking from the man who rules, and my post was mild by my standards.
It was deleted, a scapegoat has to be found somewhere, that forum is rapidly turning into a read only, soon to be too much trouble place to visit.

On that board I try the passive-aggressive technique by simply adding a factual post that contradicts the myth-of-the-day but without overtly calling the local "expert" a gullible fool.....

..... unless its gunnersam/s****shooter, who has been fair game for about five years. Actually the years of broadsides seem to have mellowed him; he only occasionally writes huge essays of barely-related wiki extracts and wild extrapolations of Enfield anecdotes....

I have owned, repaired and fired Enfields since 1963 (first one cost $12 in surplus shop) and I have never heard of an oval chamber. I have checked some of the chambers on the 30-odd Enfields I own and never found one in that shape. Obviously, I need to re-check all mine with careful attention to chamber shape.

Fictions get told around so often that many assume they are truths when they are really misconceptions or simply maliciousness on the part of the teller. "Ignore ignorance" was one of my Mother's favorite truisms.
