Throw it out for inspection! Good detailed close-up photos will help much more than overall views. The only feelings that might get hurt are your friend's if he paid way too much.

As mentioned please post a photo or two. Your friend will learn what he has and anyone else will be able to judge and also learn from the comments. There are many fake Lithgow
hook quillon bayonets or should I say "reproductions". They are easy to spot (to the learned) because of their markings. An easy one is the inclusion of a Crown which of course is English/ British
and was never associated with/ alongside the word Lithgow.
