New Type 53 Owner

I am new to this forum and this is my first, but hopefully not last post. Several weeks ago I picked-up my first Mosin, a Century import Chinese Type 53. I was lucky and traded a Marlin .22 even up for it. Like most Type 53's, the stock was not in great shape, but the metal was in good condition with no rust or pitting. The bore is also in good condition, with good (but not perfect) rifling. All numbers match, except for the bolt-which has Ishevsk markings. I refinished the stock because the cheek looked like it would take some skin off when shooting. I stripped the stock lightly sanded it (leaving most of the "history" dents and cuts), and stained it with mahogany stain. I finished up with four coats of Tru-Oil. I am happy with the results. Like the 91/30 my son has, I am amazed by the simplicity of the design and quality of manufacture. I can't wait to get out and shoot it. The only problem I have encountered so far is this strange urge to buy more Mosin rifles.

Have yet to get a Chinese Mosin. But have had plenty of the Chinese 7,62x54r ammo!

Mosinitis strikes again!! The Type 53s are battle worn beauties - they just need some TLC to get them bck in shape. It happens to most of us as we age!

But, pictures are required!

I would very much like a Type 53 to go with my M38 and M44s.

Hopefully we see some here someday.

A had a chance to go to the range on Tuesday, to shoot my new T53 for the first time. Man, was it fun! I was able to make less than two inch groups at 50 yards, and able to hit a steel plate at 200 yards. The rifle worked great using surplus-spam can ammo. I am thrilled with the rifle, and was able to fire over 60 rounds will no ill effects to my shoulder.
