If it's not too unwieldy due to the extra length, I would have to think you better off overall.

Well, the fickle finger of finances threw me a curve. After two weeks on Gunbroker, no one bit on the M4, even at $650. However, someone gave me $700 for the retro AR15 as a parts kit, less stripped lower receiver! As much as I wanted to keep the retro, I sold it (less receiver) and put the M4 back into service as my patrol carbine:

Now I have a receiver for a .300 Blackout build when finances improve!

What is that " Thing " in place of the pistol grip??? Is it one of those People's republic of California make our streets safer parts? How do you use it?
I'm not being sarcastic I really don't know what it is...

It is called a "Hammerhead" grip. In Kalifornistan, a semi-auto rifle may not have a detachable magazine if it has any of the following "evil features": pistol grip, collapsable/folding stock, flash hider, grenade/flare launcher, or forward pistol grip. The hammerhead is not a pistol grip under their complicated legal definition. I also have a muzzle break instead of a flash hider, and the stock is pinned in the open position, so I can use detachable magazines. Also the magazine must have been possessed in Kalifornia prior to 1 January, 2000. After that date, it became a felony to bring a magazine of more than 10 rounds into the state. I have had my high capacity mags since the 70s and 80s, so they are legal to have and use.
The hammerhead is actually not a bad grip, once you get used to it. It is about the same grip as an FN P90 PDW grip. I handle the M4 as well with it as the standard grip, with the exception of the safety is a little more difficult.

"Shall not be infringed" comes to mind. So even security personnel on guard against " terrorists " in Kaliforistan can't have the deadly assault weapon features? Now that's not "common sense". Stay safe...

NO, because it has a pistol grip and Kalifornistan says pistol grips are evil and dangerous!

Naturally ! Not that it stabilizes the Carbine to make it safer to hold. I had an L1A1 with a Thumb hole stock that made it almost to operate the Safety. I would have to take my thumb out of the hole and reach around to flip the Safety off. Good thing I have a "compliance" stock on it now.
