What I noticed is what appears to be a vehicle with a pintel mounted, water-cooled .30 machine gun on it.
It's on the right side of the frame behind the standing bloke.

Jim, I was thinking the same thing except that would put the M31 mount directly over the axle. They were mounted between and slightly to the rear of the front seats. I think this may an M31 mount mounted on an ammo cart but won't swear to it.

I could be a jeep facing to the left and quartering towards the photographer with the front half behind the palms???

Attachment 61278We had an instruction for mounting the .30 and .50 on the back of the jeeps for our old MG platoon. Defunct by the time I got there but the books remained. It looked just like that. I think we're looking at the left rear corner and rear wheel well of the jeep...like you say.
