Last one at least must be a promo still for The Longest Day.

I always look for uniform and equipment errors when I see a still photograph from 'The Longest Day' since they were so numerous. In this case, it's a squaddie with a rank insignia of a Specialist 4th Class on the extreme left of the photo.

I worked with a guy whose father climbed those cliffs. Later had a foot blown off by a shue mine. After the war he spent 30 years as a NYC subway motorman. Another quiet hero.

I heard a discussion of the history of toilet paper on talk radio the other day and for some reason the men of WWII came to mind when they the spoke about the use of the Sears catalog as TP. All of these guys grew up in a tougher time.

I heard they used a lot of active duty military for extras in the Longest Day. That might explain the rank and other uniform discrepancies.

They did use active military, and I believe 'The Longest Day' was filmed before De Gaulle had a temper tantrum and drop kicked US forces out of France

That's when I stopped buying French
wine as a personal protest (I still will not rent a movie starring any of the uber-left actors like Susan Sarandon). I knew it was spiting in the ocean but I felt better. Then I read that French wine sales in the US were plunging -- ha! there are more nuts like me than I thought!
