I had a 1927, serial number B16583, barrel date 11/27, butt date 1928. So close. Mine was a very good matching rifle, how is yours?

3mctoledo, yes the barrel dates are correct on youy H'17, this was a period when early receivers,(tighter actions) were converted to H rifles for the Rifle Association.
This rifle should have a H stamped on the top of the buttstock if it still has the original timber.
Your '25 should have a B prefix and one more digit in the Serial number.

I have 2 1927s. The one you are referring to has been DP'd. I do not shoot it but it is a nice matching rifle. Mainly buy ones I can shoot but it is / was a rarer year. May be a challenge but trying to get one Lithgow from every year. Happy to post some pictures but I am computer challenged.

As for the 1925. All the serial numbers were ground off. I can just make out the B on the rear sight. It was given the new serial number in Germany. Not sure if it was done during or post war. My guess is post war as a hunting rifle. I did some research but found very little. Without taking it out again I believe it was WWF with a circle. Had some post on it for Milsurps to reference.

Thank for the information on the 1917. It came to me as a synthetic stock sporter. Kind of a shame but eventually I will work on putting it back together somewhat. Rare to see H stocks for sale. Too many that need rescue.

It will be a challenge. I've had every year except for 1913 and 1938. Could of had both those as well but couldn't justify the prices at the time so I never completed my quest. Good luck but don't let it become an obsession.

Just looked the 1917 H barrel snipers in Skennerton. It has the serial number right but no mounts on mine. Must be the receivers could be from any manufacturer. I think it is cool that through the forum we can narrow down stuff over time.

You are right about getting all years however it is more about the journey into history and the mystery / tales the rifles tell for me. Right now I do some filling in with other manufactures especially the between war period. Second to Lithgows are my Lomgbranch's.

I will pull out the other Lithgow's later and post when time allows.

Ok so your 1917 H is actually a HT, is that right?

Not sure? Configuration should have mounting screws taps right?
No traditional mounting screws holes etc.
If they were clamp on then you are right about HT not just H.That is why I asked about the barrel date being in range. As stated before I have much to learn. Guess I will do some follow-up reading tonight.

If it were a HT it would show signs of previously having mounts for the scope. It sounds like a H model conversion from the 30's. I only suggested HT because you mentioned the serial number was in the list in TLE. Sorry for any confusion.
